Do you want to learn about highly effective charities and how to evaluate their impact? Are you interested in helping to select One for the World’s Top Pick charities for 2018? If so, we’d love you to apply to join our partner selection committee! Apply before 11:59pm (Eastern time) on Tuesday 12 December using the form at bit.ly/oftw_app2018.
Each year, we review which of our charities we recommend to our members as 'Top Picks'. As part of this process, our partner selection team will select ~5 charities to be One for the World ‘Top Picks’ from a list of 20 organizations recommended by The Life You Can Save (TLYCS). We are now moving nearly $15,000 each month to charities that we recommend, the vast majority of which goes to our Top Picks. We want you to help pick which effective charities we should recommend our members give to!
More about the role of the partner selection committee
The committee is chaired by Dr. Rossa O’Keeffe-O’Donovan, a Research Fellow in Economics at the University of Oxford and chair of the One for the World advisory board. Over a period of four weeks, the committee will evaluate how well charities recommended by TLYCS score on our criteria for our list of OFTW Top Picks.
The expected time commitment is 2-3 hours for four weeks. A rough outline of the process is as follows:
Early January: get availability for calls and agree call schedule
Late January: introductory group call to explain the criteria and process. Committee members will be assigned 2-3 charities from TLYCS’s recommendations and will research how well they score on our Top Picks criteria.
~Feb 10: second group call. Committee members report back on their findings and recommend which charities score highly on our Top Picks criteria. We will discuss remaining areas of uncertainty, and assign any remaining research tasks.
~Feb 20: areas of uncertainty will be discussed, and final recommendations will be made (team members score relevant charities if decision is close). Draft/update materials on new portfolio (e.g. website text, two-page overview)
If you are interested in applying, please fill out the short form at bit.ly/oftw_app2018 explaining why you want to join the team, and send your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org. Note that sending a CV is optional for undergraduates, so do not worry about sending one if you do not have an up to date CV. Applications must be received by 11:59pm (Eastern time) on Tuesday 12 December.
